The order Anseriformes (waterfowl) contains three families:

Genus-level timetree of extant Anatidae with subfamily interrelations (in particular the phylogenetic position of Oxyurinae) being based on Prum et al. (2015). The distribution of each genus is indicated by the colour-code used throughout this website (Distribution code). Sometimes the whistling ducks are treated as as separate family, Dendrocygnidae (Sun et al., 2017, following Sibley & Ahlquist, 1990). Relationships among Oxyurinae are largely based on Wuitchik et al. (2022).
